THE LAKE MAGGIORE
 Lago
Maggiore has a mild climate, which helps the growth of Mediterranean
and exotic plants. The lake is world-famous for the beauties
of its villas and botanical gardens (Villa
Taranto, Isola Madre). You must certainly visit the beatiful
Borromean Isles, well-known for their magnificent palaces
and theri terraced gardens. But not only lake.. also hills and
mountains: the national park Valgrande, which is the biggest
wilderness area in Europe, nature reserves, well-known mount resorts
(as Macugnaga) on the slopes of some of the highest mountains in
the Alps, such as Monte Rosa and Simplon mountains. Along
the lake's affluent rivers are lots of valleys, with their wonderful
settings and their age-old folk traditions: Val Formazza, with
its spectacural waterfall, Val Vigezzo, also called "the
painters' valley". Thermal restors are situated in the Bognanco
and Antigorio valleys, well-known for their mineral water.
Many are the routes for trekking and mountain bike fans. And of course
you can practice lots of sports on the lake too.
Sailing in harmony with nature, windsurfinge, canoeing,
rowing, which have created international champions brought up in
our region. And more: tennis, horse-riding and golf
(3 golf clubs).

 VERBANIA
The biggest town of Lago Maggiore, created by the union of Intra,
Pallanza, Suna and other villages, is an
international-famous health resort, which enjoys an enviable sunny place,
in the Gulf of the Borromean Isles. The well-known Villa Taranto,
with a big park and botanical gardens, has one of the biggest collection
of exotic plants in the world. Touristic harbour for excursions to the
biggest centers of the lake and to the islands, Verbania is the
host of cultural, naturalistic and sporting events. On the long lake
promenade it is possible to find lots of restaurant, bars,
ice-cream parlours and shops. There's no lack of other services,
such as banks, post offices, movies, pharmacies, indoor and outdoor
swimming-pools, gyms, bowling. It's possible to
practice any sport. |

BAVENO
 A
pleasant and comfortable village, of ancient origin, documented since
the Xth century. It's one of the most important tourist resort of the
lake, well-known since the beginning ot he year '900. Wonderful villas
are in Baveno, such as Villa Fedora with its beatiful park
and its public beach. Standing in front of the islands Bella and
Pescatori, which are quickly possible to
 reach
by a scheduled service of boats, the town is situated on the slopes of
mount Mottarone, a place which has a beatiful panorama of the
whole lake and the small lakes which encircle it, from the Ticino
planes up to Varese and the Swiss Locarno. Many are
the events taking place in Baveno, prevalently musical ones.
Picturesque is Baveno's promenade, providing the main tourist
services: shops, bazars, restaurants, bars, ice-cream parlours, banks,
post offices and pharmacies. You can practice lots of sports.

THE BOTANICAL GARDENS OF VILLA TARANTO
Situated in Verbania between the lake and mountains in an enchanting
view, Villa Taranto boasts one of the biggest collection of exotic
plants in the world, and also terrace-gardens, waterfalls,
winter-gardens and fountains.
